A mother’s help is someone who has less experience with children and would not be expected to be employed on a sole charge basis.

Essentially, a mother’s help is an extra pair of hands to help you have more time to enjoy your family. They are employed to help look after the children under your close supervision, and to perform light household tasks. A mother’s help would typically work fewer hours than a nanny, usually around 9am – 5pm and this would be on a full time live-in or live-out basis.

Maternity nurse

A Maternity nurse is normally employed 24-hours, five to seven days per week, for a period of 1-12 weeks following the birth of your family’s baby.

Maternity nurses assist the mother in putting the baby into a sleep routine and if necessary will assist in establishing a good nursing programme. They may bottle feed a baby if this is your wish. They offer invaluable advice and support to new parents in how to best care for your new baby.

A maternity or night nurse can sleep in your baby’s room or separately – this is entirely your decision.

Maternity nurses may care for older children in your home also. This allows the mother to spend more time with her new baby.
Typical duties may include:
° Bottle sterilisation
° Bathing your baby
° Sleep routine
° Preparation of the nursery
° Washing your baby’s clothes

Estimated salary
As Maternity nurses are self employed, their rates vary enormously but you can expect to pay upwards from £750 per week depending on individual requirements. We charge a flat fee of £110 per week (5 nights/days) for placement of a Maternity or night nurse, which lasts longer than 2 weeks. Or for temporary placement of a Maternity/Night nurse, lasting less than 2 weeks, we charge a one off registration fee of £100 and then a flat fee of £25 per day/night.
